‘My Calorie Pocky’ was released in Japan in June 2008 and was specifically created to make sure Pocky was still a considered snack option for a growing number of health and nutrition focused consumers in Japanese society.
In 2008 the Japanese government pushed hard against what was perceived as a growing number of cases of metabolic syndrome, and as a result, the diet and reduced calorie snack market jumped on the trend to make sure sales of their products remained unaffected.
Pocky’s response to this was the launch of ‘My Calorie Pocky’ – which was basically original Pocky, but with reduced calories.
“My Calorie Pocky” claimed to have 25% fewer calories per gram than regular Pocky thanks to a new recipe that uses less sugar and fat.
My Calorie Pocky also tried to reinforce the health benefits by claiming to have an extra 6 grams of fiber per each 38 gram package.
